Joanna is Digital Projects Specialist at ECDS and a scholar of Art History and Archaeology. Her current research engages with the architecture of Roman houses and baths, Roman archaeology, and data management for art, archaeology, and humanities projects. In addition to archival and archaeological methods, she applies digital methods to art historical questions and archaeological evidence. Her research interests include architectural history, Roman art and architecture, Roman and Etruscan archaeology, ancient Roman housing and baths, social network analysis, data management, GIS mapping, and digital accessibility.
At ECDS she collaborates with the Emory community on teaching and research, working particularly with database driven websites, digital exhibitions, network analysis, and project management. She collaborates with researchers on planning data management, database design including mySQL, performing network analysis, and producing network visualizations. She also facilitates the creation of digital exhibitions, which range from project websites, using Omeka, OpenTour Builder, WordPress, and other platforms, to 3D virtual environments, created in Unity or Unreal Engine.
Some of her key projects include OpenTour Builder, Envisioning Baroque Rome, Sailing with the Gods, and the National Emerging Special Pathogens Training and Education Center (NETEC) Resource Library.
