Teach With Us

Our team has partnered with Emory staff, faculty, and students to amplify research and elevate stories found within data and academic exploration. Since 2013, we have been proud to collaborate with internal and external partners on a variety of projects, some of which are highlighted on this site.

As advocates for student success, we offer a variety of learning experiences via our online training website, in-person workshops, student employment opportunities, and our staffed facility where folks can visit to get tips and tricks for their topics of choice. We strive to help students gain real-world experience with technology or topics they are curious about; helping prepare them for life after college.

If you have a project or idea for a project, please reach out and see how we can combine our skills and experiences to help you build a better outcome. You can find our Project Proposal process below for more information on how to get in touch.

Example Projects

Atlanta's Spanish Speakers in Dialogue | ScholarBlogs

The purpose of this blog is to amplify the voices of Spanish-speaking individuals living in Georgia by spotlighting their unique personal and professional stories. These interviews were conducted by students from Emory University’s Atlanta and Oxford campuses during the Fall 2024 semester, as part of the course SPAN 285: “Connecting Communities: Atlanta’s Spanish Speakers in Dialogue,” taught by Cristina Tarazona (Oxford) and Elva González (Emory).

Atlanta Housing Interplay | StoryMaps

Histories of Atlanta’s New Deal public housing can be told in myriad ways, through stories crafted by researchers who bring their own interests and preoccupations to the table. These accessible, richly illustrated, archivally based original works of public history were researched and written by student collaborators in Christina Crawford’s Emory University seminars on Atlanta’s New Deal public housing.

Views of Rome | Omeka

Views of Rome is the online home of the 1773 edition of Pirro Ligorio’s Anteiquae Urbis Imago (Image of the Ancient City) held at Emory University. Originally published in 1561, the Imago is a cartographic reconstruction of fourth-century AD Rome. A high-resolution scan of the map exists as an interactive digital tool for use by students in the classroom and by members of the general public.

This site provides students with access to the digital version of a rare document, and a forum for student work to be hosted online on an Omeka site. Omeka is a free, open-source content management system, that is designed to allow users to publish and exhibit cultural heritage objects. This makes it ideal for setting up websites designed around collections of objects, including art, books, documents, media, or other things. Omeka creates an environment in which stduents can curate metadata about items or interconnect them to form exhibits and essays.

Vienna Study Abroad | OpenTour

OpenTour Builder is an open-source software platform, created by ECDS, for building geospatial tours that are optimized for mobile devices. An OpenTour can be created as a part of a variety of class assignments. OpenTour provides turn-by-turn directions, ideal for assignments to get students out into their environment. OpenTour also scales well for a smaller or larger assignment. Students can each create a stop on a combined tour, for a smaller assignment, or each create a tour in a class Tour Site, for a larger assignment.

Students on Dr. Hiram Maxim’s study abroad program in Vienna used the app OpenTour Builder developed by ECDS to create an interactive mobile tour of 12 locations that highlight the city’s livability.
