Tullos is co-founder and senior editor of the open access journal Southern Spaces. He is author of Habits of Industry: White Culture and the Transformation of the Carolina Piedmont (Sydnor Award of the Southern Historical Association) and Alabama Getaway: The Political Imaginary and the Heart of Dixie. He has published articles and book chapters on subjects ranging from the visual arts to critical regionalism to politics, as well as poetry that has appeared in a variety of journals. At Emory, he teaches courses on digital scholarship, American roots music, and the history of US citizenship. Tullos worked on the production crew and as sound recordist for the documentary films “Being a Joines: A Life in the Brushy Mountains,” “A Singing Stream: A Black Family Chronicle,” and “Tommie Bass: A Life in the Ridge and Valley Country,” all available open-access, online at https://www.folkstreams.net/
